Keqiao Manufacturing: Sustainable Future

On October 25, 2024, I took part in the seminar “Keqiao Manufacturing: Sustainable Future”, held within the 7th World Textile Merchants Conference and organized by the Tsinghua University–Italy Design Innovation Base. The event gathered international experts from the political, economic, and academic fields to discuss the global vision and sustainable development strategies of the textile industry, focusing on the ecological transition of manufacturing systems and the future challenges of the sector
Within this framework, I delivered the opening speech addressing the theme of sustainable development in education. The intervention emphasized the crucial role of higher education in driving industrial transformation, highlighting how future professionals—engineers, designers, and policymakers—must be equipped not only with technical skills, but also with critical thinking and a holistic perspective.
The speech underlined how universities play a central role in shaping innovation and addressing complex global challenges, advocating for stronger interdisciplinary collaboration between environmental sciences, engineering, design, and social sciences as a necessary condition to achieve sustainable development.
