Music for The Electric Rectangle (By Simone Sarasso)
I composed and curated the original music and sound design for The Electric Rectangle, a novel by Simone Sarasso published by Quodlibet in 2021 as part of the NABA Insights series. The book tells a coming‑of‑age story centered on a professor, his colleagues, and students as they orbit around an artificial‑intelligence‑based installation and happening, from initial brainstorming and hardware/software experimentation to the work’s public premiere. The narrative blends creative writing with theoretical reflections, sound, and images, creating a uniquely polyphonic and experimental form.
In addition to the music, I authored a chapter of the book and managed its editorial process, shaping the structure and coherence of the narrative while ensuring that its multidisciplinary and experimental aspects were fully realized. My contribution aimed to integrate the literary, visual, and sonic dimensions, creating a holistic experience for readers.
The sound design reflects the book’s focus on learning, imagination, and the affective landscapes generated by the protagonists’ engagement with AI and artistic creation. Complementing the original score, I also curated a Spotify playlist, allowing readers and listeners to immerse themselves further in the book’s thematic and emotional universe.
