Per chi suona la campana? (IO01 – Umanesimo Tecnologico, n.4 – 2023)
I took part in IO01 – Umanesimo Tecnologico as a contributing author with the essay Per chi suona la campana?, which explores contemporary artistic and performative practices through the lens of Object-Oriented Ontology and post-anthropocentric theory.
The essay investigates how performance, sound art, and media practices can be reconsidered beyond a human-centered perspective, challenging traditional hierarchies that place the human subject—performer or audience—at the core of artistic experience. Drawing on philosophical frameworks that question anthropocentrism, the text examines the role of non-human entities—objects, technologies, environments, and systems—as active agents within artistic and performative processes.
By reframing performance as a network of relations among heterogeneous actors rather than a solely human act, the essay proposes a shift in how agency, perception, and authorship are understood in contemporary art. This perspective aligns with the broader discourse of technological humanism, positioning artistic practice as a critical space for reflecting on the coexistence of humans, machines, and material systems.
Through this contribution, my research situates artistic practice at the intersection of philosophy, technology, and aesthetics, engaging with emerging questions around non-human participation and expanded notions of performance.
